Who must have a CA driver license ?

Ans. Any CA resident who drives on public highways or drive on a parking facility that is open for public use.

Can I drive without a driving permit or without a drivers license ?

Ans. No. It is a misdemeanor to drive in CA without a valid driving permit or without a valid drivers license.

How many attempts do I have to pass the test with the same application fee ?

Ans. The application fee will allow you 3 attemps to pass the required knowledge written test and 3 attempts to pass the driving test.

Can I take the written knowledge test online ?

Ans. No. You must take the knowledge, vision and behind the wheel driving test at any DMV field office that provides DL services.

At what age can I apply for a driving permit ?

Ans. You must be at least 15 1/2 years of age.
